Aluminium Extension Ladders
Aluminium extension ladders are the standard for roof access, fascia work, gutter maintenance, and building access tasks that require height beyond what a step ladder can reach. The aluminium frame keeps the ladder light relative to its extended length, making it practical for solo tradespeople to handle from a van or ute. Aluminium Platforms stocks aluminium extension ladders from Indalex and Bailey in tradesman and pro series grades covering extended heights from 3.6 m to over 9 m.
Indalex Tradesman Aluminium Extension Ladders
The Indalex tradesman range at 135 kg covers extended heights from 4.7 m through to approximately 8 m for the larger models. These ladders use solid rung construction and a straightforward push-up extension mechanism. The 135 kg tradesman rating covers the typical builder, roofer, or maintenance tradesperson climbing with tools but is not the appropriate grade for heavy industrial or daily production-line use.
Indalex Pro Series 150 kg and 180 kg
The Pro Series aluminium extension ladders for the 1.4 m to 3.6 m model and extend to for the largest heights. At 150 kg and 180 kg, these are built for regular site use where the ladder is set up and taken down multiple times per day. The heavier stile extrusion resists flexing when loaded at full extension. Bailey Pro Aluminium extension ladders from the FS range complement the Indalex lineup with similar height coverage .
Extended Height vs Closed Length
Extension ladders fold down to a manageable transport length but extend to working height on site. A ladder with a closed length of 2.6 m will extend to approximately 4.1 m. When selecting, always check the extended height against the working height needed and allow for the lean angle, which reduces the effective vertical reach by approximately 20 percent at the standard 75-degree angle.
Roof and Gutter Work
Most roof access work in Australia requires extension ladders that reach the eave line plus a minimum safe overhang above the gutter. Single-storey residential requires approximately 4 to 5 m extended length. Double-storey and commercial fascia work typically requires 6 m or more. Confirm the extended height before ordering.
