Work Platforms
Star Aluminium Work Platforms for Australian Job Sites
A work platform is a different category of equipment to a ladder. Where a ladder provides access to a height, a work platform provides a working environment at height. The Star P series replaces the ladder entirely with a self-contained unit: a staircase for access, a full-perimeter guardrail system, and a large deck that gives workers room to move, place tools, and complete tasks without rushing.
The Star P series runs from 4 steps to 12 steps. Deck height scales with step count, covering the range from light overhead access through to tall-bay warehouse work and elevated plant maintenance. Each model uses the same guardrail design: full-height posts, mid-rails, and kickboards on all sides, meeting Australian working at height requirements for fall prevention.
Comparison: Work Platform vs Ladder
| Feature | Ladder | Work Platform |
|---|---|---|
| Working position | Standing on rungs | Standing on full deck |
| Hands free | No (three-point contact needed) | Yes (guardrail surrounds deck) |
| Task duration | Short tasks only | Extended work periods |
| Repositioning | Lift and carry | Roll on lockable castors |
| Stability | Depends on surface and lean angle | Four-point base, lockable castors |

ISO 9001 Certification and WHS Compliance Plates
Star Aluminium manufactures under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Every work platform ships with a WHS compliance plate fitted to the unit. The compliance plate records the rated load, relevant standards references, and inspection and service intervals. This simplifies site induction, safety audits, and equipment register management for facility managers and project safety officers.
Lifetime Structural Warranty
Star work platforms carry a lifetime structural warranty on the aluminium frame and weld joints under normal use conditions. Wear items including castors, non-slip treads, and gate latch mechanisms carry component-specific warranty coverage. We stock spare parts for all current Star Aluminium platform models.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right step count for my application?
Match the step count to your required deck height. Deck height is the height of the standing platform from the floor. Each step adds approximately 30 to 35cm of deck height. As a guide: 4 steps gives approximately 1.4m; 7 steps approximately 2.4m; 10 steps approximately 3.4m; 12 steps approximately 4.0m. If you need to work above these heights, contact us to discuss modular platform options.
What does the WHS compliance plate tell me?
The WHS compliance plate fitted to every Star work platform records the rated load capacity, the standards the unit was manufactured to, and the recommended inspection and service intervals. This information is required for your equipment register and simplifies site induction documentation. It also tells maintenance staff when the unit is due for its next inspection.
Can I use a Star work platform on uneven floors?
Star P-series platforms are designed for use on flat, level indoor surfaces. For uneven outdoor surfaces or environments with floor level changes, the Star SLS Self-Levelling Stair Platform range includes an adjustable leg mechanism that compensates for surface gradients up to a specified range. Contact us if you need a platform for uneven ground applications.
What is the difference between 120kg and 150kg rated models?
The 120kg model suits light-duty access tasks where the operator carries minimal tools. The 150kg model is the standard industrial choice, providing additional load margin when the operator carries tools, equipment, or materials. In most commercial and industrial settings, the 150kg model is the appropriate selection.
How long does delivery take?
