HVAC and refrigeration work involves access to roof-mounted equipment, ceiling-level plant, and electrical switchgear associated with refrigeration systems. The combination of electrical exposure and heights between 2 and 5 metres makes fibreglass ladders the standard tool for this trade.
The range here includes fibreglass step ladders, platform step ladders, and extension ladders suited to air conditioning installation and service work. Aluminium step ladders are also available for tasks away from live electrical equipment, such as accessing roof penetrations or working on mechanical components.
Common access requirements
Split system installation typically requires access to a wall bracket at 2 to 3 metres. Ducted system work requires access to ceiling spaces, usually via attic hatches or roof access, which calls for extension ladders. Rooftop plant access for commercial systems requires taller ladders or platform equipment depending on the roof height and parapet configuration.
Platform step ladders are useful for refrigeration technicians who work at a fixed height for extended periods, such as connecting refrigerant lines at ceiling level or commissioning equipment in plant rooms.
