Double-Width Self-Levelling Stairs
The Star Aluminium double-width self-levelling stairs are the SLS1200 series, providing two-way simultaneous passage and a wider tread than the 650 mm single-width variant. The 1200 mm stair width allows two workers to pass each other on the stairs or provides a more comfortable ascent when carrying bulky materials. Aluminium Platforms stocks the SLS1200 range from 6 steps to 18 steps, covering access heights from approximately 1.2 m to 3.6 m.
SLS1200 Models
All SLS1200 models include the same self-levelling tread mechanism as the single-width SLS650 series, adjusting automatically to maintain level treads on sloped or uneven ground.
When to Choose Double Width
The SLS1200 is appropriate where two workers regularly need to pass in opposite directions on the same access route, where materials or equipment are moved up and down the stairs, or where the site requires compliance with access width standards for workers in personal protective equipment. The wider tread also reduces the risk of missteps when workers are carrying items that restrict their view of the steps below.
Applications
High-frequency tanker and truck access, loading dock primary access stairs, process plant transfer decks, and chemical facility perimeter access are the main applications for double-width self-levelling stairs. In environments where a risk assessment has identified two-directional traffic as a hazard, the SLS1200 removes the need for turn-taking protocols on single-width stairs.
Landing Platform Integration
Star LP-series landing platforms connect to the top of SLS1200 stairs to create a turning deck, rest platform, or transfer point. LP1 through LP4 landing platforms are sized for the SLS1200 stair width and are designed to interconnect as a system for multi-level or long-run access configurations.
