Step Extension
Step extension ladders combine the self-supporting A-frame configuration of a step ladder with the reach of an extension ladder. They can be used as a standard double sided step ladder, extended as a leaning single ladder against a wall, or configured as a long straight ladder for the maximum extended height. Aluminium Platforms stocks fibreglass step extension ladders from Indalex and Bailey, all non-conductive and rated at 150 kg for industrial trade use.
Indalex Pro Series Fibreglass Step Extension
The Indalex fibreglass step extension range covers three extended height configurations: 1.8 m to 3.0 m, 2.1 m to 3.5 m, and 2.4 m to 4.1 m. At 150 kg, these are rated for trade use in electrical, HVAC, and construction settings. The fibreglass stile material means the ladder is non-conductive for all three configurations, which is important given that the leaning-ladder extension configuration brings the user in contact with structures that may carry electrical services.
Bailey Pro Fibreglass FSE Series
The Bailey Pro Fibreglass FSE series covers 6 steps, 7 steps, and 8 steps. Bailey's FSE uses a locking mechanism that positively secures the extension rung at each height setting. These are used by electrical and building services contractors who want the flexibility of a multi-configuration ladder without carrying multiple units in the van.
When to Use a Step Extension Ladder
Step extension ladders are most useful for trades that face variable access conditions on a single job. A sparky or HVAC tech working in a building with changing ceiling heights, some wall-access tasks and some open-floor tasks, benefits from a single ladder that can be reconfigured rather than a step ladder and a separate extension ladder taking up van space.
Fibreglass Only Range
The step extension category at Aluminium Platforms is currently fibreglass only. This reflects the primary use case of these ladders in electrical and HVAC trades where non-conductive construction is a safety requirement. Aluminium step extension ladders are available on request.
