Aluminium Planks
Aluminium planks rated at 225 kg are the standard industrial work surface component used in combination with trestles and scaffold frames to create elevated work platforms. The aluminium construction provides a corrosion-resistant, lightweight platform surface that spans between supports without the weight penalty of steel planking. Aluminium Platforms stocks Indalex and Staruiju 225 kg aluminium planks in lengths from 1.8 m to 5.0 m.
Available Lengths
Indalex aluminium planks are available in 3.0 m, 4.0 m, and 5.0 m lengths. Staruiju planks are available in 1.8 m, 2.4 m, and 3.0 m lengths. All models are rated at 225 kg distributed load across the full span length when supported at both ends.
Industrial Load Rating
The 225 kg load rating covers a single worker with full tool load and moderate materials. For heavier distributed loads such as stacked materials, multiple workers on the same plank, or power tools with vibration loading, the structural adequacy should be assessed against the specific load case rather than using the 225 kg figure as the only metric. Never exceed the rated span or the rated distributed load. Both Indalex and Staruiju planks use a closed-box extrusion profile that gives good rigidity across the rated span without excessive weight.
Applications
Trestle-and-plank setups for painting and plastering are the most common application. Two trestles set at height with a plank spanning between them creates a portable elevated work platform for ceiling work, cornice installation, and wall finishing at heights from 0.6 m to 1.5 m. Scaffold plank replacement or supplement where aluminium is preferred over timber is a secondary application, particularly in environments where timber planks absorb chemicals, oils, or moisture and become a slip hazard or hygiene concern. Facilities maintenance teams use aluminium planks as a repeatable portable work surface between fixed support structures on plant floors.
Plank Length vs Support Spacing
The plank length must match or exceed the support spacing. A 3.0 m plank cannot safely span a 3.5 m gap between trestles. Select the plank length based on the actual trestle bay width required. For wider bays, use the 4.0 m or 5.0 m Indalex models. For standard residential trestle work at 2.4 m to 3.0 m bay widths, either the 3.0 m Indalex or Staruiju planks provide adequate span coverage.
Pairing with Star Trestles
Star Aluminium trestles are the companion product to aluminium planks for creating trestle-based elevated work platforms. A standard two-trestle setup requires two trestles and one or more planks to cover the working width. Contact us for a trestle and plank bundle quote for site setup orders. Volume pricing is available for painting contractors and plastering companies that purchase plank sets regularly.
