Multi-purpose ladders convert between configurations: A-frame step ladder, leaning extension ladder, staircase ladder, and in some models, a scaffold base. One ladder replaces three or four single-use models, which suits tradies who want to reduce what they carry to site.
The range here includes Bailey and Indalex multi-purpose ladders covering load ratings from 120KG to 150KG. The Bailey range is particularly well-regarded for its locking hinge system, which holds each configuration securely and allows quick changeover on the job.
Common configurations
- A-frame: standard step ladder position, self-supporting
- Extension: leans against a wall or structure like a single-section extension ladder
- Staircase: hinges set asymmetrically to match a stair angle, keeps the ladder upright on stairs
- Scaffold base: two ladder sections placed under planks to form a low working platform
Bailey 3-in-1 and other models
The Bailey multi-purpose range includes the 3-in-1 and larger configurations. These cover heights from 1.5 metres in A-frame mode to 4.5 metres extended, depending on the model. Load ratings are 120KG to 135KG for most Bailey combination ladders.
