Double-Sided Step Ladders
Double sided step ladders stand independently without needing a wall or support surface, which makes them the right choice for open floor areas, painting, fit-out, and tasks where the work is directly overhead. Aluminium Platforms stocks double sided step ladders from Indalex, Bailey, and Staruiju in aluminium and fibreglass, with load ratings from 100 kg for domestic use up to 180 kg for industrial trade work.
The Double Sided Advantage
Because both sides are usable, double sided ladders allow a second person to pass tools or materials up from either side without moving the ladder. On worksites with multiple trades working in close proximity, this reduces repositioning time significantly. The A-frame structure also improves lateral stability on level floors compared with a leaning ladder.
Range
Indalex Tradesman 150 kg double sided ladders cover 0.6 m to 1.5 m heights and are built for site conditions where tools and materials are carried while climbing. The Indalex Pro Series 180 kg range is designed for worksites and facilities where the ladder is in continuous use throughout the day. Bailey Pro Aluminium double sided ladders cover 3 to 14 steps. Fibreglass double sided models from Indalex and Staruiju cover the same step range for use in electrically hazardous areas.
Platform vs Standard Top
Standard double sided step ladders have a top cap used only for hand support. Platform step ladders replace the top cap with a large standing platform and are a separate category. If the task requires both hands free while working at height, a platform step ladder or access platform ladder is a better match than a standard double sided model.
Step Count Selection
The range covers 3 steps (floor to 0.6 m platform height) through to 12 steps for high-bay fit-out and ceiling services. Most trade applications use 4 to 8 steps. Choose based on the working height required, not the total ladder height, since safe standing position is two to three steps below the top.
