Pit Ladders
Pit ladders provide vertical fixed access for inspection pits, underground maintenance chambers, service tunnels, and below-grade plant rooms. Unlike portable ladders that are placed and removed for each use, pit ladders are permanently installed at a specific access opening and provide consistent, safe access to the same below-grade space throughout its operational life. Star Pit Ladder Models
The Star Pit Ladder range is available in 90-degree and 70-degree D-rung configurations. The 90-degree model provides fully vertical access, where the worker climbs with their body perpendicular to the pit face. The 70-degree model offers a slight lean-back angle which is more comfortable over deeper descents and reduces fatigue for workers accessing the pit multiple times per shift. The D-rung profile provides a full-hand grip for both ascending and descending.
D-Rung Design
The D-rung is the standard rung profile for fixed vertical ladders in industrial environments. The D shape provides a positive grip surface from above when descending, and the flat face of the D prevents the foot from sliding sideways. This design is consistent with Australian Standards for fixed access ladders and is specified in most industrial plant and mining access standards.
Applications
Vehicle inspection pits, below-grade pump stations, stormwater infrastructure maintenance chambers, underground electrical switchrooms, telecommunications vault access, and industrial basement plant rooms are the primary applications. Any below-grade space that requires regular or emergency access needs a fixed ladder solution that meets safe work requirements for the intended user load and descent depth.
Installation
Star pit ladders are mounted to the pit wall using wall brackets supplied with the ladder. The mounting height covers the full access depth. Custom lengths are available for pits deeper than the standard model range. Contact us with the pit depth and wall construction details for a custom length quotation.
