Self levelling stairs automatically adjust their tread pitch to maintain level stepping surfaces regardless of the slope of the ground beneath them. Star Aluminium manufactures the SLS range in both single-width (650 mm) and double-width (1200 mm) configurations for vehicle access, loading dock stairs, outdoor facility access, and any application where the floor gradient cannot be relied upon to be flat. Aluminium Platforms supplies the full SLS range from 6-step to 18-step models.

How Self Levelling Stairs Work

The self-levelling mechanism uses a pivot and counterbalance design in the base assembly that allows the stair angle to adjust as the foot of the stairs rests on sloped ground. The tread surface remains level regardless of the pitch correction applied. This eliminates the tipping and uneven footing that occurs on fixed-pitch portable stairs placed on sloped surfaces. The adjustment is passive and requires no user operation.

SLS650 Single-Width Range

The SLS650 series covers 6 steps to 18 steps. Six steps gives access to approximately 1.2 m height for low-deck vehicle access. Eighteen steps reaches approximately 3.6 m for high-sided truck and tanker access. All single-width models are 650 mm wide, which is standard for single-direction foot traffic.

SLS1200 Double-Width Range

The SLS1200 series covers the same step range from 6 steps to 18 steps in a 1200 mm wide configuration. The wider format allows simultaneous two-direction traffic and is required where materials or equipment are moved up and down the stairs during operations, or where site access standards specify a minimum passage width.

Landing Platforms and Extensions

Star LP-series landing platforms connect to the top of any SLS stair model and provide a transfer deck, rest point, or multi-stair junction. LP1 through LP4 are engineered specifically to integrate with the SLS650 and SLS1200 base units.
