Single-Width Self-Levelling Stairs
The Star Aluminium single-width self-levelling stairs are the SLS650 series, a fixed-stair access system that automatically adjusts its angle to maintain level treads regardless of the floor gradient below. The 650 mm refers to the stair width, which is the standard single-passage width for one worker ascending or descending. Aluminium Platforms stocks the SLS650 series in 6-step through 18-step configurations for access heights from approximately 1.2 m to 3.6 m.
SLS650 Models
The step count determines the maximum access height. All models include a self-levelling mechanism that adjusts the stair pitch to maintain level treads on slopes from 0 to approximately 15 degrees.
Self-Levelling Mechanism
The self-levelling function is the key feature of the SLS range. On uneven or sloped ground, a fixed-pitch stair would produce uneven tread angles that create a slip risk and are uncomfortable to use. The SLS mechanism automatically compensates for the slope, keeping the tread surface horizontal regardless of the underlying gradient. This is particularly valuable for outdoor access to vehicles, loading docks with slight grades, and industrial settings where the floor surface is not perfectly flat.
Applications
Truck access, tanker access, chemical storage facility access, loading dock supplementary stairs, and construction site temporary access are common SLS650 applications. The single-width configuration suits locations where foot traffic is light to moderate and the priority is self-levelling function over two-way simultaneous passage.
