Access & Work Platforms
Access and Work Platforms for Industrial and Commercial Use
Access and work platforms provide stable elevated working positions that ladders cannot match. Where a ladder provides a climb path, a work platform provides a working environment: a full deck, perimeter guardrails, and an access stair or ramp. This range covers aluminium work platforms, adjustable platforms, stair platforms, truck access platforms, cantilever platforms, and order pickers.
Work platforms
Star Aluminium P-series work platforms are the core of this range. They suit manufacturing, warehousing, automotive, and food production environments where workers need to spend extended time at height. The stair access, full guardrail system, and industrial load ratings make them practical for high-frequency, operator-intensive work. Available in 1-step to 12-step configurations, covering deck heights from light overhead access to tall-bay warehouse work.
Adjustable platforms
Adjustable work platforms allow a single unit to serve multiple working heights without changing equipment. Star adjustable platforms use a scissor-lock mechanism to set and lock deck height, making them a cost-effective choice for facilities where access requirements vary across the work area.
Stair platforms
Star MSP stair platforms are the wide-tread, two-foot-access variant of the work platform range. They suit environments where operators carry tools, materials, or components up the access stair. The wider, shallower tread improves safety for loaded ascent and descent in manufacturing, food processing, and aviation maintenance environments.
Truck and vehicle access platforms
Truck access platforms are engineered for vehicle-side access. The platform height is set to match a truck tray or container side, giving drivers, loaders, and maintenance staff a stable working surface at vehicle height. Available in fixed-height and adjustable configurations.
Order pickers
Bailey order picking platforms serve warehouse environments where a rolling elevated platform is more practical than a fixed work platform. The narrow base footprint and castored frame allow the platform to move through standard warehouse racking aisles.
Cantilever platforms
Star CLP cantilever work platforms extend a working deck over fixed machinery, tanks, or raised infrastructure without requiring the platform to be positioned on top of the obstacle. Suited to maintenance teams working around fixed plant in utilities, oil and gas, and manufacturing environments.
Choosing the right platform
The key variables are working height, required deck size, load capacity, and mobility. Fixed-position platforms (P-series) are the most stable choice for repetitive tasks. Adjustable platforms suit variable-height applications. Stair platforms suit loaded ascent. Order pickers suit narrow-aisle warehouse environments. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a work platform and a ladder?
A ladder provides a climb path to a height but requires the worker to maintain three points of contact during use, leaving limited ability to work hands-free. A work platform provides a standing deck at height with a full perimeter guardrail, leaving both hands free for the task. For extended work at height, work platforms are safer and more productive than ladders.
What working height do I need?
The working height of a platform is measured from the floor to the top of the guardrail when standing on the deck. Platform step count determines the deck height. As a guide: 4-step platforms provide approximately 1.4m deck height; 7-step approximately 2.4m; 10-step approximately 3.4m; 12-step approximately 4.0m. Contact us if you need help matching step count to your required working height.
Are Star work platforms compliant with WHS requirements?
Star Aluminium work platforms ship with WHS compliance plates fitted as standard. Each unit is built under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Full compliance documentation is available on request. Specific compliance requirements vary by state and worksite, so we recommend confirming requirements with your safety officer before purchase.
What load rating do I need?
Star P-series platforms are available in 120kg and 150kg rated configurations. The 120kg rating suits light-duty and general access. The 150kg rating suits trade and industrial applications where the operator works with tools and materials. When load requirements are unclear, choose the higher rating.
Can I use a work platform outdoors?
Star work platforms are designed for use on flat, level indoor surfaces. Outdoor use requires level ground and appropriate surface conditions. For uneven surfaces, Star self-levelling stair platforms (SLS series) include an adjustable leg mechanism that compensates for surface gradients.
