Aluminium Extension Ladders for Construction and Trade

Extension ladders reach heights that fixed-length ladders cannot. The two-section sliding design lets you set the working length to suit the job, then lock it in place. This makes them the standard choice for roof access, gutter work, external wall tasks, and any job where the access point is above 3 metres.

The range here covers aluminium extension ladders from 3 metres to over 8 metres extended length. Brands include Bailey and Indalex, both manufactured to Australian Standards for portable metal ladders.

Choosing the right size

Extension ladders are rated by extended length, not by the working height they reach. The working height is roughly the extended length minus one metre, to account for the lean angle and the hand position at the top. A 6-metre extension ladder gives around 5 metres of working height for most users.

Bailey extension ladders are a popular choice for builders and tradspeople who carry a ladder on a roof rack and use it across multiple sites. The Bailey range covers standard load ratings with a focus on weight and portability. Indalex models are available in higher load ratings for industrial and heavy-use applications.

Safe use

Extension ladders should be set at a 75-degree angle (1 out for every 4 up). The top should extend at least 1 metre above the landing point when used for roof access. Ladder feet should sit on firm, level ground and be secured where possible.
